How to study flashcards so they actually stick

A flashcard works when it forces an answer, not when it reprints a textbook paragraph. Three rules you can apply in MemoritiAI from the first deck.

One idea per card

A long card with a whole paragraph trains skimming. A better card has one question and one answer. If the material is complex, split it.

Example: instead of “describe photosynthesis”, make separate cards for the substrate, the product, and where the process happens.

Recall first, then check

Cover the back. Say the answer out loud or write it down. Only then flip the card. That is active recall — stronger than rereading notes.

In slideshow mode mark I know it or I don’t and return only to the queue you have not mastered.

Short and often

Working through the whole deck once creates an illusion of mastery. After a few days the forgetting curve takes the details. A better rhythm is short sessions: weak cards first, then a mix of earlier ones.
